Photonics4foods: how digital watermarks are changing the future of packaging
On 11 May 2023, Innomatic was a guest at Photonics4foods at the Rodenbach Brewery (Roeselare). During this inspiring event, visitors discovered how photonics and AI can take companies to the next level. Our manager Tom explained how UV, AI and digital watermarks already offer concrete solutions in the food and packaging industry today.
What are digital watermarks?
A digital watermark is an invisible code that is incorporated into packaging. The eye cannot see any difference, but scanners and cameras can read the code. This gives each package a unique digital identity.
The applications are promising:
- Traceability: products can be tracked throughout the entire chain.
- Consumer information: with a simple scan, consumers can obtain additional information, recipes or origin data.
- Sustainability: watermarks enable better sorting and recycling of packaging.
- Brand protection: counterfeiting and fraud are detected more quickly.
Collaboration with Digimarc
For this technology, Innomatic is collaborating with Digimarc, a pioneer in digital watermarks. Thanks to their expertise, we can help companies work more efficiently, communicate more transparently and, at the same time, prepare for a circular future.
Why this matters to your business
Whether you are active in food, retail or manufacturing, digital watermarks are a smart step towards greater innovation, sustainability and customer focus.
